Ussuri Longhair
The Ussuri Longhair is the proposed longhaired division of the Ussuri, a rare Russian breed developed in the Primorsky Krai of the Russian Far East, purportedly from crosses between domestic cats and the Amur leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus). The WCF and SFF/RFF recognize the breed. The standard describes a medium-sized, muscular cat with a spotted or mackerel tabby pattern.

Origin
The Ussuri breed was developed in Russia's Primorsky Krai in the 1980s, taking its name from the Ussuri River in the Russian Far East. Breeders claimed descent from domestic × Amur leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus) matings, though full genetic verification is limited. The breed's spotted and mackerel tabby patterns are consistent with a wild cat influence. The SFF and WCF recognized the breed; both shorthair and longhair divisions are documented.
Standard
The WCF standard for the Ussuri describes a medium-sized, sturdy, well-muscled cat with a slightly rounded wedge head, medium-large ears, and oval eyes. The coat pattern is restricted to spotted or mackerel tabby in brown or silver ground colours. The longhair division has a semi-long, dense coat with the same pattern and a plumed tail. Solid, colourpoint, and bicolour patterns are not accepted.
Leopard Cat Hybrid Claims
The Ussuri's breeders have claimed Amur leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus) ancestry based on the breed's found in the Primorsky Krai, a region where leopard cats are native. Leopard cat × domestic cat crosses do occur naturally in areas where the two species coexist. However, without published genetic testing confirming hybrid ancestry across generations, the Ussuri's wild-cat lineage remains claimed rather than verified. The WCF and SFF register the breed regardless of verified wild ancestry.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Ussuri really a hybrid with the Amur leopard cat?
Russian breeders have claimed Amur leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus) ancestry in the Ussuri's founding. However, genetic testing has not been widely published to confirm this. The breed's appearance is consistent with a wild-cat hybrid programme similar to the Bengal, but formal verification remains limited. The WCF and SFF accept the breed regardless of verified wild ancestry.
Which registries recognize the Ussuri Longhair?
The WCF and Russian felinological bodies (SFF/RFF) recognize the Ussuri. CFA, TICA, GCCF, and FIFe do not carry the breed.
How does the Ussuri compare to the Bengal in terms of wild-cat content?
The Bengal is a verified domestic × Asian leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) hybrid breed with published genetic confirmation, CFA and TICA championship recognition, and an established F4+ breeding population. The Ussuri's claimed wild-cat ancestry has not been verified by published genetic studies; it is registered by the WCF and Russian registries but lacks the international recognition and genetic documentation of the Bengal.
